STUDIO RULES

STUDIO RULES

We want your shoot to go smoothly and ask that everyone renting Urban Myth Studio review these rules before arriving.

Arrival / Please Don’t Arrive Early

The studio may be occupied by another client, getting reset for your session, or we may simply be taking a break between bookings. There is no waiting area in the building, so please don’t ring the bell before your scheduled start time.

If you or someone from your crew arrives early, Caffè Vita is just one block away at 576 Johnson Ave.

When your rental time begins, buzz #9 or call me from downstairs and I’ll let you in. The studio is on the second floor.

The Cyc

The cyc wall and floor are painted white and generally repainted about every other week. Normal use does cause scuffs and marks, so the cyc may not be perfectly spotless when you arrive. These marks usually won’t be visible in your photographs.

If you need the cyc floor in close-to-perfect condition, we can repaint it white the night before your session for a $30 painting fee. Please request this service at least 48 hours in advance.

Please Protect the Cyc

Make sure everyone in your group knows not to step on the curved portion of the cyc where the floor meets the wall. Please also avoid touching the back and side walls, as this will leave marks.

If you need to step on the curved portion or touch the walls and leave marks that require repainting, a $30 repainting fee will apply.

I know that’s a lot about the cyc. Sorry to go on about it, but everybody benefits from keeping it in good shape, and your help is appreciated.

Moving Furniture & Equipment

If it doesn’t have wheels, please don’t drag it across the studio floor or cyc area. Furniture and equipment should be picked up, carried, and placed. Anything you move must be returned to its original location before you leave.

Glitter, Smoke & Special Effects

Glitter is not allowed unless you’ve made a specific arrangement with us in advance—it can take a month to completely get rid of it. If glitter is approved, a $50 deposit is required. The deposit will be returned as long as no glitter is left behind.

Smoking is not permitted in the studio. If you plan to have alcohol, please clear it with me in advance and agree to any reasonable restrictions.

Please also speak with me before using: Fire; Liquids; Paint; Wind effects; Confetti; Smoke.

Outside smoke machines are not permitted. We have an in-house fog machine available to rent.

Children

Please be aware that the studio is not childproof. It is a professional workspace designed for adult use and contains production equipment that can present hazards to children. If children are part of your group, they must be closely supervised at all times. The renter is responsible for their safety.

Equipment Safety

Anyone operating studio equipment must know how to use it safely. If you’re unsure about a piece of equipment, please ask me before using it. I’m always happy to help.

Cleanup & Reset

Please leave the studio in the same condition you found it.

Before leaving: Return furniture and equipment to their original locations; Dispose of all trash; Take all of your equipment, props, wardrobe, and personal belongings with you.

If the studio is left in a condition that requires additional cleanup or resetting, a $30–$50 studio reset fee may be charged.

Rental Time & Overtime

Your rental time should include the time you need to wrap and load out. I understand that shoots don’t always finish exactly on schedule, so I allow a 15-minute grace period to finish wrapping without going into overtime.

However, you may not continue shooting beyond your scheduled end time without checking with me first to make sure overtime is available. If you think you’ll need additional time, please let me know as early as possible.

Overtime is billed at 1.5× the standard hourly rate and prorated by the half hour.

We generally try to leave an hour between bookings to accommodate sessions that run over and to give us time to reset the studio. The minimum time required between bookings is 30 minutes.

Renter Responsibility

By renting Urban Myth Studio, you agree to the following:

You, as the individual renting the studio, are responsible for the studio and its contents, as well as the actions and safety of everyone in your group. You personally assume responsibility and liability for damage, theft, or injuries occurring during your scheduled rental as a result of your actions or the actions of anyone in your group. You agree to reimburse the studio for repair or replacement costs resulting from damage to or loss of studio property during your rental. You agree that studio equipment will be operated only by people qualified to use it safely and that all equipment will be operated with due care and within the capabilities of the studio and its electrical system.

Please take note of the condition and arrangement of the studio when you arrive. You are responsible for returning it to the condition in which you found it and agree to pay the $30–$50 studio reset fee if the studio has not been properly reset when you leave.

You are also responsible for making sure that you, your group, and all of your property are out of the studio by the end of your rental period and for any applicable overtime charges. Urban Myth Studio is not responsible for property left behind after your session.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation, and have a great shoot! — Peter
